This full interior renovation of a 1902 tenement building retains the original exterior while completely updating the interior room configurations and building systems.
The typical apartment floor plan is organized around a single central object that contains all of the following functions: kitchen, washer/dryer, cooling, and storage. On the street side of the object are the living room and flex room, which can act as a home office or smaller bedroom; facing the rear yard is the bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
The white oak of the kitchen frame object complements the original pine floors and white-washed fireplace elements. The walls of the main stair are also whitewashed, complimented with grey floor and trim details to allow for a bright walk-up experience. The shared rear yard is planted with climbing plants on the perimeter and a set of “islands” for various uses.
